A guide to trading charts on RumiEX
A trading chart has one job: to show you, accurately and without delay, what the market is doing — and to give you the tools to turn that picture into a decision with defined risk. This guide explains how the RumiEX charts work, how to set them up for the way you trade, and how the pieces fit together from first analysis to placed order.
What makes a trading chart useful
Three qualities matter more than any feature list:
- Accuracy and freshness. A chart is only useful if the price on it is current. RumiEX streams prices to the chart over a live connection and tells you clearly if updates stop, so you never mistake a frozen price for a live one.
- Clarity. The best chart is the one you can read at a glance. That means choosing a chart type and a small set of indicators deliberately, rather than filling the screen.
- A path to action. Analysis is only valuable if it ends in a plan: an entry, a stop-loss and a position size. The trading panel sits beside the chart so the plan and the order are one step apart.
How prices reach your chart
Each instrument's price is delivered to your browser as a stream of small updates over a WebSocket — a persistent two-way connection that lets new prices arrive as soon as they are published, rather than your browser repeatedly asking for them. Each update moves the live price line and reshapes the forming candle on the right of the chart.
Instruments marked OTC are quoted by RumiEX's own pricing engine rather than taken from an external exchange, and are available around the clock. Their prices are not any particular exchange's prices, which is why they are labelled clearly. You can see every available instrument and its live price on the markets page.
The forming candle and the countdown
The rightmost candle is still forming: its close follows the latest price, and its high and low stretch whenever price reaches a new extreme within the period. It is only final when its period ends. The candle countdown shows how long it has left, which helps you avoid one of the most common mistakes in chart reading — acting on a pattern that looks complete halfway through a candle but closes as something else.
Feed status
Above the chart you can see whether the connection is live. If prices haven't updated for a while, a warning appears on the chart. The app reconnects automatically; until prices are updating again, it's wise not to place orders. Our article on how real-time market data works explains why stale data is such a hidden risk on any platform.
Choosing a chart type
The five chart types draw the same prices in different ways:
- Candlestick — open, high, low and close in one shape, coloured by direction. The best default for most traders; our guide to reading candlestick charts explains every part of a candle.
- OHLC — the same four prices drawn as bars, which some traders find less visually busy.
- Line — closing prices only, for a clean view of the overall shape of the market.
- Area — a line chart with shading beneath it.
- Bar — a simple histogram of closing prices.
Use the keyboard shortcuts 1 to 5 to flick between them. Changing chart type keeps your zoom and scroll position, so you can compare views of the same section of the chart instantly.
Choosing a timeframe
Seven timeframes are available: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 1 day and 1 week. The timeframe you choose shapes everything else — how many setups you see, how wide your stop-losses need to be, and how much random noise you are exposed to.
A practical approach is to choose a main timeframe that fits your schedule and use a higher one for context. Someone who can check the market twice a day might use the 4-hour chart for setups and the daily chart for direction; someone trading during a single session might use the 15-minute chart with the 1-hour for context. Our guide to multi-timeframe analysis sets out the method step by step.
Split view
The Add chart button opens a second chart beside the first, each with its own timeframe and settings. Keeping your higher timeframe visible while you work on the lower one is the simplest way to avoid trading against the bigger picture. You can also use split view to watch two related instruments side by side.
Using indicators well
RumiEX includes the indicators most traders actually use:
- On the price chart: SMA 20, SMA 50, EMA 20, Bollinger Bands and VWAP.
- As readouts: RSI, MACD, ATR and the Stochastic oscillator.
- Volume can be shown as a histogram beneath price.
Indicators re-express past prices to highlight one feature — direction, momentum, volatility or volume-weighted value. They don't add new information, and they lag by design. The most useful setups combine one indicator from each family you need: for example a 50-period moving average for trend context and ATR for volatility. Several momentum indicators on one chart mostly repeat the same message. Our guide to technical indicators explains how each is calculated and where each tends to mislead.
ATR deserves a special mention, because it connects charts directly to risk. It measures the average size of recent candles in price units, so a stop-loss placed a multiple of ATR beyond a level adapts automatically to how much the market is moving — wider when it is volatile, tighter when it is calm.
Drawing tools: marking the market
The drawing toolbar lets you record your analysis on the chart:
- Trend lines to connect swing highs or lows.
- Horizontal lines to mark a precise level.
- Rectangles to shade a support or resistance zone, which is usually more realistic than a single line — see support and resistance explained.
- Fibonacci retracements between a swing low and a swing high.
- Elliott Wave annotations for labelling wave structure.
- Text and callouts for notes.
Further shapes are available in the toolbar. Once your levels are placed, lock the drawings so they don't move while you scroll or zoom, and use undo, redo and clear to keep the chart tidy.
Price alerts: stop watching every tick
A price alert notifies you when the market goes above or below a level you choose. Alerts change how you trade: instead of staring at the chart waiting for something to happen, you mark the levels that matter, set alerts, and come back when one fires.
That matters for results as much as for convenience. Watching every tick is one of the most reliable triggers for impulsive trades — chasing moves, or acting on setups that aren't really there. Our article on FOMO and revenge trading explains why. A short list of meaningful alerts is one of the simplest defences.
From chart to order
When a setup appears, the trading panel next to the chart is where you act. RumiEX offers:
- Market orders, which execute immediately at the current price.
- Limit orders, which execute only at your price or better — useful for buying pullbacks or selling rallies.
- Stop orders, which trigger once price reaches a level — useful for trading breakouts.
- Stop-loss and take-profit levels attached to the resulting position, so your exits are decided before you enter.
- Up/Down fixed-time trades, which settle after a set time with a fixed payout.
Pending orders and exit levels are monitored automatically every few seconds, so in fast markets a fill can differ from your level. Our order types guide explains each option, and our article on Up/Down fixed-time trades explains how those work, the break-even maths and the regulatory restrictions on them in several countries.
A simple workflow to start with
- Choose one instrument and open the daily chart.
- Mark the key zones with rectangles and lock them.
- Add a 50-period moving average for trend context and ATR for volatility.
- Open split view with your trading timeframe on the second chart.
- Set price alerts at the zones where your setup would trigger.
- When an alert fires, check the setup against your trading plan, calculate the position size from the stop distance, and place the order with stop-loss and take-profit attached.
- Record the trade in your journal.
Practise before you risk money
Every RumiEX account includes a funded demo wallet with the same live prices, charts and order tools as the live account. It is the best place to learn every tool on this page without financial risk — see the demo account guide for a structured practice plan, and getting started on RumiEX for the full setup.
In summary
The RumiEX charts give you streaming prices with a clear freshness indicator, five chart types, seven timeframes, the indicators traders rely on most, a full set of drawing tools, split view and price alerts — with the order panel one step away. Use them deliberately: a clean chart, a higher timeframe for context, a few well-chosen indicators, alerts instead of constant watching, and every order planned before it is placed.
